Hello everyone. I still have not been able to make it to Altadena as I had hoped. However, I'm hoping to get up there within the next few weeks.
We have been to some of the local spots in Turnbull Canyon and right here in Uptown Whittier. I was told to check out this little trail that was good for the kids at the end of Philadelphia Street in Whittier, CA.
The trail is on Canyon Drive, from the map above it appears to venture off in both directions. But the trail to the north is blocked off and a sign states "No trespassing". So we went South, it is a very short trail that ends behind the Whittier College stadium. It was very shady and no elevation gain and plenty of places to picnic.
We spotted a few bunnies and plenty of birds. None of which stuck around long enough to photograph! The whole trail took us less than 15-20 minutes to walk to the end, we did stop often to look down into the wash that is to the right of the trail. Overall I wish it was a longer trail but it is what it is and its right down the street from us so we count our blessings :)
This is a photo looking across the wash to the west of the trail. There is a neighborhood right there, I would love to have this as my backyard!
Next time maybe we will have a picnic and just enjoy our surroundings.
Stories, legends and actual documented events in and around the Turnbull Canyon area, in Whittier California, are discussed here. But most importantly we hike, talk about the trails, and share pictures from our adventures.
